Legal Advocacy and Education: FH UNY Tackles Human Trafficking at the Village Level
Primary tabs

Lecturers from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FH UNY) have conducted a community service program titled “Prevention of Human Trafficking Crimes” in Nambak Village, Bungkal District, Ponorogo Regency on September 30, 2025. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16, which emphasizes building peaceful societies, ensuring access to justice, and establishing strong institutions. The community service program featured three legal experts as speakers. The first speaker, Iffah Nur Hayati, S.H., M.H., opened the session by providing an overview of the national legal framework concerning human trafficking crimes. The second speaker, Maryamul Chumairo A, S.H., M.H., elaborated on the theoretical aspects of human trafficking, including regulations, criminal elements, and the social and legal impacts on vulnerable communities.
The highlight of the program was the session led by Nabila Ihza Nur Muttaqi, S.H., M.H., who serves not only as an FH UNY lecturer but also as an advocate. Nabila Ihza presented practical repressive and advocacy measures that the community can undertake and offered direct legal consultations to the attending residents. This approach enabled participants to understand preventive steps, the rights of victims, and legal mechanisms for protecting themselves from human trafficking, while equipping them with practical knowledge to address real-life legal situations. The activities were conducted interactively, including discussions, case studies, and individual consultation sessions, allowing participants—particularly youth and community leaders in Nambak Village—to grasp legal concepts, their rights, and preventive measures that can be implemented locally.
The outcomes of the program demonstrated increased public awareness of human trafficking issues, better understanding of existing regulations, and readiness to actively participate in preventing such practices. This community service activity underscores FH UNY’s commitment to the tridharma of higher education, particularly in providing tangible contributions to law enforcement, human rights protection, and the development of fair and safe communities.
