Primary tabs

Yogyakarta – The Faculty of Law, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) successfully held a two-day Visiting Professor Program on 24–25 November 2025. The program focused on contemporary legal issues in Malaysia, with particular emphasis on sexual harassment and the parole system. Participants were undergraduate students from the Law Study Program, Faculty of Law UNY. Carrying the theme “Contemporary Legal Issues in Malaysia: Sexual Harassment and Parole System,” the program featured two guest lecturers from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Malaysia. Mimi Sintia Mohd Bajury, LL.M., delivered a lecture explaining that sexual harassment is not just a personal or organisational issue, but a societal challenge. She stated that by breaking the silence and addressing the problem head-on, Malaysia can pave the way for safer, more inclusive workplaces and a culture that prioritises mutual respect and justice.
Dr. Rafizah Abu Hassan presented a lecture highlighting that a delicate balance must be made between assisting parolees' rehabilitation and surveillance to preserve community safety. She emphasised that a clear legislative framework is needed for the parole officer’s surveillance and rehabilitation duties. She also noted that this entire quandary may perhaps be alleviated if the parole officers are given optimum support and guidance from the Prison Department, Parole Board, parole department, and the community. The learning sessions proceeded dynamically, with students actively engaging through questions and comparative discussions on Indonesia–Malaysia legal frameworks. The Visiting Professor Program reflects the Faculty’s commitment to expanding international
academic cooperation and enhancing students’ access to global legal insights.
